Affordable Care Act Rapidly Approaching

Health Care Reform Resources:

The ACA health insurance exchanges will be open for registration beginning October 1, 2013 for purchase of health insurance plans effective January 1, 2012. We all need to get up to speed on what the choices are. Note that health insurance can still be purchased directly from the insurers outside the exchanges, and most employers wil continue to provide group health insurance as part of their benefit packages. The Kaiser Family Foundation  website is full of practical resources to help health care consumers as the ACA rapidly approaches.http://kff.org/health-reform/

From our friend Clark Howard, here is a helpful summary of the ACA exchange health plan choices effective January 1, 2014, classified as platinum, gold, silver and bronze. According to Clark "all the plans must offer the same core package of essential benefits, such as coverage for prescription drugs, maternity and newborn care, lab services, emergency services and preventive and wellness care. And none of the plans can deny coverage or charge higher premiums for pre-existing conditions, meaning illnesses or conditions you already have. The difference between the four choices will boil down to something called "actuarial value." Simply put, it's how much of the total costs of covered benefits the insurer will pay for an average person." http://www.clarkhoward.com/news/clark-howard/insurance/health-plan-choices-2014/nX9cP/
